RE: Lobby improvements
It's good to see the Board is considering ways to upgrade the lobby area to make it more attractive.
Along with improvements in appearance, however, I suggest that consideration should be given to making this part of our common area more functional.
The makai area of the lobby (fronting Ala Moana Blvd.) has great potential but historically has been very underutilized. In my observations, almost no one spends any time in this area and it's become a kind of sterile wasted space.
If we just limit our actions to redecorating the makai lobby, it will likely be more attractive but may continue to be ignored unless we give residents good reason to go there.
I suggest that this area might be an appropriate venue in which to prompt more interaction among Nauru Tower residents.
We could organize events that could draw people to this underutilized space and provide opportunities there for residents to get to know each other better.
A coffee kiosk in the mornings, tea and pastries in the afternoons, wine and cheese in the evenings, a jazz pianist on Friday nights, and a chamber music group on Sunday afternoon are just some of the things that could be set up to bring people together and make our great lobby space a social center for the building.
I believe we have an opportunity to make this space a productive part of the Nauru Tower common area and add value to the quality of life here.
I believe many of the things we could do to enhance interaction need not be expensive and, in fact, most could be self-supporting if a small fee were charged for beverages, music events, etc.
Probably, a small amount of seed money would need to be allocated by the Board to get such a program started.
I suggest we form a "social committee" or some such entity to explore how to best use the lobby space to encourage more of a sense of community among Nauru Tower residents.
Please let met know if you think this proposal is worthwhile or feasible.
